Nomad Chef: Long Table Lunch – June 7, 2025 – near Porto by the Tâmega river, Northern Portugal

Join us for a countryside escape just 45 minutes from Porto: a long table lunch set among vineyards, stone terraces, and rolling green hills. This is the return of Nomad Chef—garden-driven, globally inspired, and served with soul.

The table will be set in the Gatehouse (once a distillery), out in the vines, or on the old threshing patio overlooking the Tâmega River. Wherever we gather, you’ll be surrounded by good people, bold flavors, and stories shared under the open sky.

This isn’t just a meal—it’s a gathering. Come ready to connect with strangers, sip something cold, dip into the splash pool between courses, and savor a fusion menu shaped by years of nomadic cooking across continents.

We’ll curate a multi-course feast using ingredients from our organic garden—flavors spicy, salty, sweet, and surprising. This is a slow lunch with big energy, where strangers become friends, and food becomes memory.

Bring a towel, your appetite, and a good story or two. Laugh, linger, and let the afternoon unfold.

A vegetarian option is always available. Please email to confirm any dietary needs.

€35/40 per guest as a contribution for food (early bird pricing/regular price).
Guests are welcome to bring their own wine, or purchase from a curated selection available at the lunch—each bottle chosen to complement the menu.

9 March, Nomad Chef Music – Launch Event!

In the spirit of nomads and wandering musicians, we have decided to launch Nomad Chef Music – a monthly house concert (yes, in our hush hush secret restaurant chez nous)! Please join us in our launch event. We will serve nibbles (lovely fusion canapés á la Nomad Chef) and you bring your own bottle. We have comfortable seating for 40, but this event is likely to be very popular, so book as soon as you can.

You can purchase your tickets (£15 each) here.

We have two super musicians in our first line up. Alex Berger and Simon Lewis did a school play together but didn’t see each other for 11 years when they were re-acquainted by a mutual artist (Nell Bryden) at a show in early 2010. They’ve been playing together ever since – all over the UK (London, Leeds, York, Liverpool, Essex etc). A particular highlight was their at the Liverpool Philharmonic where they got rave reviews.

Alex Berger

Alex Berger

Today is the 1 year anniversary of his first album, Snow Globe, and here is the title track! Happy birthday Snow Globe!

Having spent many of his formative years struggling to come to terms with an overwhelming desire to create music, and after much soul-searching, 2008 finally saw London’s very own trans-Atlantic songsmith Alex Berger harness his immeasurable talent for song-writing; resulting in an astonishing rise to prominence that shows little sign of abating.

It would be churlish to describe him as merely another singer/songwriter, another accomplished pianist or just another burgeoning talent set for fame and fortune. His devastating passion for music, the admiration he holds for peers and an immense respect of his craft arouses a heartfelt response; Alex Berger is cut from a different cloth altogether and his music is all the richer for it.

Citing the likes of Randy Newman, Tom Waits and Amber Rubarth, among many others, as key influences to date, Alex never ceases to seek greater inspiration from other artists. And yet his voice and songwriting are confident and utterly unique. Immersing his mind, body and soul in a resurgent New York indie music scene, it was with the help of like-minded colleagues and brethren that saw him realise his ambition of becoming a recording artist in his own right. Simon Lewis

Simon Lewis“A master at work…playing like this takes a hell of a lot of talent.” Andy Snipper, music-news.com

In 2010 Simon Lewis was most likely to be seen showcasing his instrumental talents with some of the luminaries of the London and New York folk scene: in the last year he has toured in the UK and France with Adrian Roye & the Exiles and Alex Berger, and played as a side man with Will Knox, Alex Wong, Vienna Teng, Katie Maddocks and Joshua Idehen. This evening sees him step away from that role, with a set of his own solo material for guitar and vocal that has been quietly nurtured under the radar. His final solo performance of last year was at the beautiful St Leonard’s Church in Shoreditch, an appropriate setting for his songs, full as they are of longing, loss and enchantment. Drawing influences from artists as diverse as Richard Thompson, Bon Iver and Bill Withers, Simon’s first solo performance of 2011 will be eagerly anticipated.

28 November – Thanksgiving late lunch/early dinner!

Only one of the fabulous foods being served!

Nomad Chef: Thanksgiving for family and friends!

Thankgiving in the US is a holiday so we all gather in the afternoon so that we can eat for hours and hours and hours… That is part of the fun. Eating and getting up and wandering around, talking to people, and then sitting back down again for a little nibble. And there are usually little kids running around wreaking havoc. The first Nomad Chef Thanksgiving Dinner is on Thursday the 25, an evening. And that one has already sold out. But 7 pm was just too late for the people with little children, so in order to accomodate the little ones who also need turkey and all of our lovely desserts, we are organizing a second Thanksgiving dinner. And we’ll sprinkle a little fusion in the mix, in keeping with our Nomad tradition.

You do not have to know us to come and feel like part of our family. Thanksgiving in my house was always filled with complete strangers that my mom would bring home when out doing last minute shopping. That was one of the best parts!

The “dinner” (late lunch)  will include an aperitif and 3 course meal, plus several fabulous puddings in true Thanksgiving fashion.

Vegetarian option is always available.

£30 per adult as contribution for food (kids are free) – you bring your own wine or alcoholic beverage.

Palette is not the same thing as palate

Nomad Chef: L’art de la cuisine!

Great art and great food have so much in common, not the least of which is their appeal to the culturally curious. Art is a reflection of the artist’s culture, resonances in nature and improvisation around themes of his or her life. In celebration of the art of food, this Nomad Chef dinner is designed to tickle the palate of the culturally curious by curating a menu borrowed from cultures that have been of primary influence to the Nomad Chef, in particular Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, French and North African. Street food for foodies.

The dinner that can be accompanied by an optional wine tasting, will include an aperitif and 3 course meal, plus a fabulous pudding (or two!).

Vegetarian option is always available.

In celebration of food, glorious food, the Nomad Chef is celebrating Thanksgiving as only a native American (in both senses of the word) can do. Our menu will combine traditional and modern, fusion and folkloric… all in great quantities (the reason for a slightly higher price for this dinner).

The dinner can be accompanied by an optional wine tasting and will include an aperitif and 3 course meal, plus several fabulous puddings in true Thanksgiving fashion.

Vegetarian option is always available.

£35 per adult as contribution for food – you bring your own wine or alcoholic beverage.
